Folk Sessions

Folk Sessions at The Black Bull are held every Wednesday in our cosy bar.
The evening kicks off at 7.30, but turn up with your instrument and join in even if you’re a little later! Iain Fraser and our friends from the Merlin Music School in Melrose will be running the show with everything from Fiddles, Flutes, Bodhrans, Bongos, Guitars and Vocals in play. All skill levels invited and welcome, and if you don’t fancy playing, why not come along and enjoy the show with a nice glass of something soothing from our bar?

Wine Dinner 24th February

This will be our fourth wine dinner, and if the previous evenings are anything to go by, you will be in for a real treat!
The evening begins at 7.30pm with a welcome drink and some nibbles to get the ball rolling. Then at around 8pm everyone will be seated for the first course. What follows will be a 5 course set menu with a different wine to match each course. This format gives our chefs the opportunity to really show what they can do, using the best in seasonal and local produce to create a superb menu. This also allows us to match some interesting wines to each course, hopefully introducing you to something new in terms of grape variety or style of wine.
The wines chosen are themed; for our Festive Wine Dinner we chose to show the flexibility and versatility of Pinot Noir and how well it paired with festive food. We had a representative from Cecchi wines in Tuscany to co-host our first dinner, where we showed 6 wines of the Estate, and we have a producer from Portugal hopefully joining us later in the year.
The cost of this event is £55 per person, which includes all food and wine on the evening. If you wish to make a reservation please call us on

We are holding a wine dinner, the first of many over the winter period.
Thursday 3rd November starts 7.30pm.
5 courses matched with a different wine for each.
£55pp (includes dinner & wine)
Featured producer is Cecchi, from Tuscany in Italy.
This is the first of many planned wine dinners, which should prove to be an informative and enjoyable evening for wine buffs and foodies alike.
The fixed choice menu allows our chefs to really show off their talents, alongside some stunning Italian wines.

Our Next Gourmet Burger Night

Following the success of our first gourmet burger night, we have decided to hold another, in September.
On the evening of the 15th of September, come and try some hand made burgers served with hand cut chips and enjoy our cask ales, fine wines and premium spirits.
